Exploring Touch Compass's new kaupapa: The Five Pillars of Disability Consciousness
It's been a beautiful week of cloud, rain and sunshine - perfect for growing plants and plans for the future.
Touch Compass is taking advantage of our various lockdown levels by hosting thought-provoking online kōrero on various arts and disability topics, led by our Artistic Direction Panel - Lusi Faiva, Rodney Bell and Suzanne Cowan. These gatherings offer a safe space to come together for robust conversation about disability arts in Aotearoa New Zealand, to meet our creatives, and to ask questions. They are for us all to connect to community and to support each other!
On Wednesday 6 October at 4pm, our Artistic Direction Panel will be exploring Touch Compass's kaupapa - The Five Pillars of Disability Consciousness. This conversation will be sign interpreted by Platform Interpreting.
Join our fourth kōrero this Wednesday, 6 October, at 4pm.
Disability Leadership - nothing about us, without us - frames the first Pillar of Disability Consciousness. Lusi Faiva says, "Disability leadership is the future, creating our voices in our art which will help us to build a good solid foundation with acceptance of disability consciousness.
"We’ve been identified with strong voices but it doesn’t mean that we stop; we can continue on pursuing this prospect of Touch Compass’s values. They are well known but it comes within from the disabled artists themselves. They are the foundation that is already built on for a long while.
"We can see how it works if we break the barriers to specify what values we have. The most important to us all is freedom to be able to lead our creativity in this non able-bodied environment."

After the panel's conversation, the kōrero will be opened up to include reflections and questions from all attendees. We would love to hear your perspective and hope you can join us for this lively discussion!
Thank you for coming along with us on our journey of discovery and creativity. He waka eke noa.
